Above and Beyond the Syllabus

Above and Beyond the Syllabus

We built our first reading list by asking a different question than most curricula start with: not what should a child of this age know, but what does this particular child need to think clearly.

Antequam obtemperes verifica. Desponde donec scias cur. Before you comply, verify. Withhold consent until you know why. That line sits above our desk, and it shaped the list more than any state standard did.

A month in, the shift is visible in how she argues her opinions rather than simply stating them.
